The Industry Honors Program at Johnson College is a distinctive program designed for high-achieving students who demonstrate strong academic performance, professionalism, and leadership potential. Through this experience, eligible students, typically those with a 3.0 GPA or higher, are identified by faculty and work with the respective Program Director to complete required lab components at off-campus industry partner locations. While lecture and general education courses remain on campus, industry partner facilities effectively become the lab environment, allowing students to reinforce classroom learning through real-world application.
The program bridges academic instruction with progressive, hands-on industry engagement. Students learn directly from industry professionals, gain practical experience in professional settings, and ultimately complete an Internship aligned with their field of study. This structure ensures graduates leave the program with not only technical knowledge, but also confidence, professional connections, and experience that directly translates to the workforce.
Additional details regarding student eligibility, program experience, industry partner involvement, and eligible academic programs are available through the program’s informational resources. Students interested in participating are encouraged to contact their Program Director or email industryhonors@johnson.edu for eligibility and next steps.

Johnson College has well-defined internship courses for semester and intersession terms, based on programmatic requirements. The internship is a planned learning processes that integrates technical studies with supervised work experiences. Students may be employed by industry, business, or government organizations for a specific period of time in positions related to their technical fields. Work assignments are in an environment that enhances technical studies leading to an associate in science or associate in applied science degree. The internship blends theory and practice in partnership with the employer, the student, and the college. These are educational enrichment experiences.
Johnson College’s internships are designed to provide the student with responsibility on the job, commensurate with increased academic study, technical skills, and experience gained from previous semesters of classroom study and lab/shop work. Internship activity may be compensated at the discretion of the employer.
The Biomedical Equipment Technology, Radiologic Technology & Veterinary Technology programs have separate clinical or internship requirements within their departments. Although they are not hosted directly, the Career Services Department assists with any and all necessary support as with all Johnson College students.
The general objectives for all Internship work experiences are as follows:
In addition to these general objectives, the company supervisor, the college’s program directors, advisors and the Career Services department all assist the student in developing a well-planned series of work objectives that commensurate with the goals of the student’s educational experience and the needs of the employer. The student should, with the assistance of their program director and company supervisor, carefully review the job description, noting where they can gain new skills, increase knowledge, or improve skills or attitudes.
Each program has their own set of requirements to fulfill their program obligations in a specific timeframe and setting. Each student should discuss their options with their advisor and program director. Students may also refer to the Academic course catalog for further information.
