In the event that in-person classes are delayed or canceled, notifications will be shared through multiple channels. Students, faculty, and staff can receive alerts via text message by signing up for the Johnson College Campus Alert System:

• Visit www.johnson.edu/campus-alerts,
• Or text “essential” to 79516 for Scranton Campus Alerts,
• Or text “wework” to 79516 for Hazleton Campus Alerts.

In addition to text alerts, weather and emergency updates will be posted on the Johnson College website (www.johnson.edu) and shared on the college’s official social media platforms. It is also recommended to monitor local television stations for announcements.

When the campus operates on a delayed opening, the campus will open at 10:00 AM and follow a compressed schedule.

Classes will meet in 35-minute compressed time blocks:

• Classes normally scheduled for 50–90 minutes will meet for one compressed time block (35 minutes).
• Classes normally scheduled for 2 hours will meet for two consecutive compressed time blocks (70 minutes total).
• Classes normally scheduled for 3 hours will meet for three consecutive compressed time blocks (105 minutes total).
• Classes normally scheduled for 4 hours will meet for four consecutive compressed time blocks (140 minutes total).

If a class has a regular start time that is not listed in the chart, refer to the closest earlier start time.

Example: A 75-minute class starting at 12:15 PM, 12:30 PM, or 12:45 PM should follow the 12:00 PM regular class start and meet during the 1:00 – 1:35 PM compressed time block.
