Academic advising is a collaborative process between a student and an academic advisor. Each student is assigned an academic advisor based on their program of study and is required to meet with them at least once per term. Academic advisors promote student success by providing academic support and connecting students with campus resources that can assist them throughout their educational experience. This assistance begins once the student is enrolled in academic coursework and has completed new student orientation. Academic advisors facilitate personal growth by encouraging students to take responsibility, exercise independence, and advocate for themselves. A key tenet of academic advising is that students are responsible for their own decisions. The student’s role is to explore academic, career, and personal goals, while academic advisors provide information and guidance needed to achieve those goals.
“The mission of the Academic Advising Office at Johnson College is to encourage and empower students as they work toward their educational and career goals. Through individualized guidance in a supportive environment, we are committed to helping students navigate their academic journeys, make informed decisions, and develop a clear plan for graduation.”
Each academic advisor oversees a specific list of programs to ensure that students receive consistent support and guidance throughout their enrollment at Johnson College.
