What Is the Industry Honors Program?

At Johnson College, we prepare students to enter the workforce with confidence, skill, and experience. The Industry Honors Program is a four-semester opportunity for students who stand out—academically, professionally, and personally. Through this program, you’ll gain real-world exposure by working closely with local industry partners. From guest speakers to internships, each semester builds your knowledge, skills, and network. This is more than a resume booster. It’s a chance to put your education to work in real-time and be recognized for it.

Program Overview: Semester-by-Semester

You’ll participate in one experience each semester, designed to grow your industry understanding and career readiness.

Semester 1: Guest Speakers

Industry professionals visit campus to share their experience, career paths, and insight into what it’s really like to work in the field.

Semester 2: Job Shadowing

Spend time on-site with a company, observing operations and learning how teams work together to get the job done. No hands-on tasks, just real-world exposure.

Semester 3: Industry Immersion

Replace a traditional lab with hands-on experience at a partner site. You’ll complete assigned tasks, earn academic credit, and be evaluated, just like you would in a job setting. It appears on your transcript.

Semester 4: Internship

Work part time on-site while finishing your coursework. You’ll apply what you’ve learned in class and immersion to real tasks, building valuable experience before you graduate.

Who’s Eligible?

Students must:

  • Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Maintain consistent attendance with no unexcused absences
  • Complete any required prerequisite courses or labs
  • Demonstrate professionalism and safety awareness
  • Be recommended by faculty or your program director
  • Be approved by a Review Committee

This program is only open to students who are ready to represent Johnson College in the workplace and uphold the standards of our industry partners.

What’s Expected of You

If you’re selected, you’ll be asked to:

  • Attend an orientation session to prepare for your experience
  • Submit an application, resume, and signed participation agreement
  • Uphold Johnson College’s standards while on-site
  • Communicate professionally with your site supervisor and College contacts
  • Complete all required evaluations and paperwork (Semesters 3 & 4)

If your eligibility changes after acceptance, such as a drop in GPA or a conduct issue, you may be removed from the program.
