Continuing Education Program Offers 285 Hour CNC Training Course

Johnson College’s Continuing Education Program’s 285 hour non-credit certificate Computer Numerical Control training will begin on Monday, October 5, 2020 and will run Mondays through Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. on the Johnson College campus in Scranton. The training is designed for individuals looking to enter the high-demand machining field and will cover the theory and hands-on practice of both conventional and high-demand machining field. Students will learn blueprint reading, and math with an emphasis on the use of metals and the stresses placed upon them.

Johnson College’s Continuing Education Program distinguishes itself from the College’s 2-year degree programs and certificate courses by providing its adult students the opportunity to improve their skills to stay ahead of the competition, learn new technologies, and advance in their current career. Continuing Education Program Offers Online Healthcare Courses

Johnson College’s Continuing Education Program is offering four exclusive online Healthcare courses. They include: Clinical Medical Assistant, Electronic Health Records Management, Medical Billing & Coding, and Pharmacy Technician. Students who enroll in Johnson College’s exclusive online courses learn at their own pace and on their own schedule. The education and training these courses provide give students the opportunity to advance in or begin new careers in Healthcare, one of our region’s essential industries.

The Clinical Medical Assistant course is designed to prepare students to function as professionals in multiple healthcare settings. Medical assistants with a clinical background perform various clinical tasks including assisting with the administration of medications and with minor procedures, performing an EKG electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and other related tasks. Job opportunities are prevalent with physician’s offices, clinics, chiropractor’s offices, hospitals and outpatient facilities.

The Electronic Health Records Management course prepares students to understand and use electronic records in a medical practice. Students will review the implementation and management of electronic health information using common electronic data interchange systems and maintaining the medical, legal, accreditation and regulatory requirements of the electronic health record.

The Medical Billing & Coding course offers the skills needed to perform complex coding and billing procedures. The course covers: CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation and Management), specialty fields (such as surgery, radiology and laboratory), the ICD-10 for both diagnosis and procedure coding, and basic claims processes for insurance reimbursements.

The Pharmacy Technician course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Content includes pharmacy medical terminology, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining generic and brand named drugs and much, much more.

in the new building following the Ribbon Cutting at 5:00pm!

Please join us for our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Health Science Technology Center on Tuesday, March 26, 2013(rain or shine). Ceremony will begin at 4:00pm and will conclude at approximately 4:30pm. The College will host a Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce Business Card Exchange in the new building following the Ribbon Cutting at 5:00pm.

Johnson College broke ground on the Health Science Technology Center project on September 20, 2011. Through an academic and master planning process, the College determined that a new building dedicated to health science was needed in order to offer technology-based academic programs in emerging health science fields. With the aging of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s population and related healthcare needs, plus the impact of the new medical college in Scranton, employers will be seeking a larger pool of highly skilled personnel in health science fields.

The first program to be housed in the new building is a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program. PTAs assist a Physical Therapist in delivering therapies to the patient and help patients with exercises and other therapeutic treatments. The first class is planned to start in Fall 2013, pending all approvals from associated accrediting agencies.

To finance this new building as well as potential new degree programs, Johnson College is raising money through its first-ever Capital Campaign – the Next Century Campaign. The total goal is $4.5 million. To date, approximately 80% of the goal has been raised, which includes a $1.5 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program matching grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Thus far, the Health Science Technology Center is the largest project in the College’s history. Come celebrate this noteworthy achievement with us!

Johnson College Open House Scheduled for March

Johnson College will hold an Open House for prospective students and their families on Saturday, March 2, 2013 starting at 9:30 a.m.

Open House activities will include information sessions on the admissions process, on-site applications, information on financial aid (financial aid is available to those who qualify), and student services such as housing, student life, student support, athletics, and career services. Tours of each technical area will also be conducted and department chairs will be available to review the specifics of their programs.

Those interested in attending the Open House can register online at www.johnson.edu/openhouse or by calling the Admissions Department at 570-702-8900. Application fees will be waived for those who apply at the Open House.

A Financial Aid FAFSA Presentation is also scheduled for 9:00am that day for students and families who wish to ask questions or seek financial advice before the Open House begins.

The Open House and Financial Aid FAFSA Presentation will be held in the Moffat Building, located on the College’s campus at 3427 North Main Avenue in Scranton, which is off exit 190 on I-81.

Johnson College’s Continuing Education Department’s next Welding classes are scheduled to start January 28, 2013. Students can choose from the following two welding training options:
• Basic Cutting & Welding: 375-hour course, 17 weeks, Monday through Thursday, 4pm-10:15pm, $5250.00 (CareerLink Funding available, call 570-344-7037 to see if you qualify)
• Professional Welder: 725-hour, 32 weeks, Monday through Thursday, 4pm-10:15pm, $11,500.00 (CareerLink Funding available, call 570-344-7037 to see if you qualify)

The next Continuing Education Customized Welding classes are scheduled to start March 5, 2013.
• Customized Welding: 64 hour, 8 weeks, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6pm-10pm $650.00

Johnson College’s Continuing Education Department is also offering a CNC Certificate Program. This course is scheduled to start on January 28, 2013 and will end on June 27, 2013. The CNC Certificate Program is a 510-hour course, 22 weeks, Monday through Thursday, 4pm-10:15pm, $6250.00 (CareerLink Funding available, call 570-344-7037 to see if you qualify).
